THE first ladies' open of the season at Tavistock Golf Club attracted a large field for the four ball team event. 

Played in bright sunny conditions and, despite a strong wind later in the day, there were good scores.  The Bude team of Liz Underwood, Shirley Persey, Alison Houghton and Carol Bowman  were first with the excellent score of 85 pts.  The Tavistock team of Bridget Luckham, Janet Kiely, Peggy Burge and Sue Coles took second place with 81 pts.  Third were Marion Seward, Katie Bushell, Wendy Roberts and Kim Flock from Wrangaton with 79 pts on countback from Tavistock's Nicky Gawman, Bev Ruth, Maggie Hillman and Alison West.  The best visitors team (not in the top four prizes) were Gill Lang, Liz Payne, Mo Longstreet and Alison Arnold with 72 pts and June Kendall, Val White, Elaine Cooper and Sally Hills were the best Tavistock team with 76 pts. 

Nearest the pin on the 7th was Gabrielle Greening from Tavistock and, nearest the pin in two on the 14th from Teignmouth was Hennie Bush.

The Harvey Frost Mixed Greensomes is always a popular event and this year there was tight scoring for first place.  The pair of Graham Ruth and Julie Harding took the honours with 45 pts on countback from Lynn  Swift and Alan Gawman.  In third place was Nicky and George Gawman with 44 pts.  Scoring was also tight in the men's greensomes with Dave Burge and Shaun Kiely scoring 42 pts to take first place from Adam Bridgewater and Ian Nye with 41 pts.  In third place were Alan Gawman and Tommy Rawlinson with 40 pts on countback from Kenny Mackenzie and Rob Sleep.
