ALWAYS a sign  that Christmas cannot be too far away is when Tavistock Golf Club players compete for the Poultry and  Bottle Trot competitions. 

First off was the men’s Poultry Stableford with Dan Harries topping division one with 35 points, second Nick Mier 34pts on countback from Patrick McMahon. 

In division two Mike Burbidge took first place with 36pts, second Dave Thomas with 31 pts on count back from Ian Davies and Dennis Greening.

Thirty teams played in the ladies’ Bottle Trot team event. 

The winning team with 84pts were June Kendall, Lesley Moore and Norma Thewlis.

Second with 81 pts Maggie Hillman, Bridget Luckham and Lynn Swift.  Julie Harding, Hilary Picton and Gloria Westhead  were third with 80 pts, fourth Hazel Cash, Joan Newland and Sara Hanson with 78 pts.

The men have yet to play their Bottle Trot and the ladies their Poultry Stableford.

Because of the weather the Caddies’ Trophy was played in conjunction with the Grandmothers’ Cup.  In division one Kate Butler scored an excellent 41 pts, second Nicky Gawman 37 pts and third Bridget Luckham 34 pts.  Julie Harding was first in division two with 35 pts, second Chris Leach 32 pts on count back from Sue Coles. 

In division three first Jean Thomas 35 pts, second Norma Thewlis 28 pts, third Sue Eastwood 27 pts.  Jean Thomas won the Grandmothers Cup  and Julie Harding the Caddies Trophy.

In the men’s Freeman Cup Hampshire qualifier   Nick Coe topped division one with nett 70, second Martyn Moon nett 71 and third Dan Harris nett 72 on count back from Neil Cleave and Rob Score.  In division two, first Steve Fowler nett 70, second Sean Cleave net 73 and fourth Paul Reid nett 74.
