TAVISTOCK Golf Club continued its busy season on a course that has become firmer due to the dry hot weather.
Eighty-seven players took part in the Captain’s Prize played in conjunction with the monthly medal. Mark Cottingham scored a nett 68 to win the Captain’s Prize for division one and runner up, with a nett 69, was Rob Staniland and third Andrew Haywood, nett 70. The winner of the Captain’s Prize in division two was Martin Hoar with an excellent nett 63; runner up with nett 64 was Tom Kelly and, third, Paul Lillicrap, nett 67.
The Elaine Cooper Trophy for handicappers 19 and below was also played in conjunction with the ladies’ monthly medal. First in division one and winner of the trophy was Belinda MacSherry with nett 68, runner up Lynn Swift nett 70 and third Bev Ruth nett 73. Nikki Ormond was first in division two with a nett 71 on count back from Anne Dawson; third was Sally Hills on nett 72.
In the Juniors Stableford first with 40 points was Sam Laurence; second, Jamie Ninnis 35pts on count back from Elise Williams.
The men veterans played for for the Jim Spackman Trophy which was won this year by Tony Russell with 35pts, second Dick Spackman (son of Jim) 34pts and third, with 33pts, Richard James.
More than £3,600 was raised by three members of Tavistock Golf Club. Graham Horton, Nicky Gawman and Mike Swift took part in Dartmoor Classic Medio Ride of 67.4 miles to raise money for St Lukes’ Hospice which is also the Captain’s Charity for 2019. This was a great effort for a very worthwhile cause!
