THROUGHOUT the past weeks the Tavistock Golf Club green staff have made valiant efforts to keep the course open for members.
Not all holes came into play and there were some temporary greens but this did not stop members enjoying their golf despite the awful weather.
Then, at last, the first competition of the year the men’s four ball better ball open got underway. Seventy teams took part but topping the leader board were the Tavistock pair Nick Coe and Alan Gawman with 45 pts on count back from Jason Arnold and Darren Clifford from Downes Crediton.
Closely behind with 44 pts were Tom Dodd and Philip Riley also from Tavistock.
The men veterans played their first home match of the year beating Okehampton in a closely fought game winning three and a half to two and a half.
With a busy fixture list, hopefully, the season is now underway!
