THE only consolation Tavistock Golf Club men veterans had when losing, yet again, to the juniors was that the club has some very talented golfers coming through from the junior section.

All the matches were closely fought but it was a clean sweep for the juniors beating the men’s veterans 3- 0 to claim the Roy Caulfield  Trophy.

In the rescheduled Mixed Open Team event Tavistock teams took the top places.  With a score of 89 points Alan Gawman, Lynn Swift, George and Nicky Gawman were first; second Graham and Dawn Dennis, David and Peggy Burge with 82 pts, closely followed by Ken and Sybil Cole, Keith Stenhouse and Jenny Kay with 81pts.  Hilary Picton and Ajay Patel (Tavistock), Karen and Andy Whitby (China Fleet) were fourth with 80 pts.  The Tavistock team of Tom Dodds, Sue Stewart, Mike and Tracy Sutcliffe took fifth place with 79 pts.  Ladies nearest the pin on the fourth, Sue Stanbury  (Okehampton);  men’s nearest the pin on tenth, Trevor Smith (Wrangaton).

In the ladies’ medal – first in division one Jenny Kay with a nett 74; second Fran Horton nett 76 and third Belinda McSherry nett 78.  Carolyn Crawford was first in division two with nett 77; second Anne Williams net 81 and third with nett 81 Joan Newland.
