IT was sunshine and showers for the rescheduled Devon County Lady Veteran Golf Association autumn greensomes at Tavistock Golf Club.

Despite the recent bad weather and due to the efforts of the ground staff, the course was in very good condition. The rearranged date for this popular Devon veterans’ competition still attracted many clubs but topping the leader board with an excellent score of 44 points were the Tavistock pair of Paul Congo and Norma Thewlis.

The men’s Stableford was postponed for 24 hours due to the wet weather. Out of the 30 golfers who played the following day Nick Turner was first with 39pts, second Patrick McMahon 38pts and third Mark Cottingham 37pts on count back from Len Scott.

In the men’s John Morris medal first in division one Mark Cottingham with a nett 70 on countback from Chris Johns; third Peter Floyd nett 71 on count back from Jon Behennah. With a nett 69 Andy Down was first in division two; second Simon Kelly nett 71 and third Tom Kelly nett 75.

In the ladies’ monthly medal Cheryl Hall with a nett 73 was first in division one, second Jane Hosking nett 78 and third Belinda McSherry nett 79 on countback from Dawn Phillott.  In division two first was Margaret Smith with a nett 77, second Nicola Ormond nett 80, third Myra Sussex nett 84 on countback from Julie Harding and Marian Stenhouse.

* The winner of the Caddies’ Trophy was Jane Hosking and not Nicola Ormond as was stated in a previous report.
