ON September 14 in appalling weather a steadfast Okehampton Sheelah Creasy Team, together with caddies and supporters, set off for Yelverton Golf Club for the county finals.
Their quest was to retain the Sheelah Creasy Bowl which they successfully secured in last year’s final.
Their opponents this year were a strong East Devon side but Okehampton ladies are a tenacious bunch and were determined to give it their all. The Oke ladies got off to a good start taking the first three matches however East Devon came back fighting to win the fourth and fifth matches.
Okehampton then won the vital sixth match to clinch victory and the Sheelah Creasy Bowl for the second year running — the first time this has been achieved by any club. The club congratulated the players, caddies and supporters in their super win.
Congratulations also to Marcia Collett and Marcia Jones for a fantastic County Willes Little Final on Friday at Ilfracombe to bring home more silverware for Okehampton.
After a tense semi-final against Churston our fabulous duo won this match on the 19th hole. A brilliantly fought battle against Torquay was ahead — going four down early in the match, then bringing it back to all square on the 13th.
With three holes to play the two Marcias were two down but they dug deep producing some superb golf under pressure, this saw them triumphant on the 18th green.
It was a great result and they were cheered by their supporters along the way during their 37 holes of golf.
An individual Stableford was held on Saturday. The winner of division one was Andy Parry with 42 points; division two was won by Jay Carroll with 41pts and division three winner was Adrian Raymond with 43pts.
