MEMBERS of Milton Abbot Cricket Club stumped up a great evening to celebrate the playing season when they held their presentation night at the Bedford Hotel in Tavistock.
It was certainly a cause of celebration as the club earned promotion in the Cornish Cricket League.
Captain Rich Baxter told the Times: ‘We started in the bottom league, seven east, which we won in our first season. 2013/2014 was not so good as we finished mid-table in league six east division. This year, with an influx of players, we won six east and will be playing in division five east next season.’
The club was originally founded in 1848 by the then Duke of Bedford. The club ceased playing in the early 1970s but started up again in 1988 and still has one one original member left from that season, Brian Batten.
The club played in the Tamar league until 2012 and applied to the Cornish League once Saturday cricket within the Tamar league stopped.
