VERY strong winds made play very difficult in the annual match between the ladies and men veterans for the Cooper/House Trophy at Tavistock Golf Club.
The winners, after some tight matches, were the men vets who won four and a half to three and a half.
Tavistock ladies, playing in the qualifying round of the Daily Mail Foursomes, also had to cope with the wind but the top three pairs all scored an excellent 36 points. The winners were Wendy George and Helen Phipps on countback from Maggie Hillman and Janet Kiely and Hilary Picton and Gail Reed.
The winning pair will represent the club in the next qualifying round in the new year. In the ladies’ Wycisk Cup Janet Kiely, with a nett 77, won the trophy with Carolyn Crawford, coming second with a nett 80 on count back from Wendy George.
Forty nine teams competed for the four ball better ball Foster Ferris Trophy. Winners with 43pts were Nick Coe and Dan Harris; second Dave Symons and Viv Wilton 41pts. All with 40pts were Ian and Dave Thomas, Rob and Val Jarman, Scott and Emma Davey, Callum Watkins and Adam Bridgewater and Tracey and Mike Sutcliffe.
At the lady veterans’ annual meeting Shirley Trevena stood down after a successful year as captain.
Shirley thanked everyone for their support and she felt sure that her successor, Anne Dawson, would get the same support and enjoy her year as much as she had.
