DEVON County invited Tavistock Golf Club juniors Jamie Ninnis and Tom White to play in the Devon County Foursomes when a pair dropped at late notice.
It was a 36 hole (adult) event and Jamie and Tom, playing off a combined handicap of 12.5, shot a nett 69.5 in the morning. In the afternoon they went on to score a superb net score of 65.5 giving them a total of 135m thus winning the nett competition by eight shots! It was a remarkable achievemenby the two Tavistock youngsters.
There was close scoring in the men’s Kiely Cup, which was won by Rob Staniland and Danny Brockington with a 73 on count back from Jack Philpotts and Philip Riley. In third place were Mike Apps and Rod Hillman with 72 on count back from Mike Burridge and Paul Reid.
There was also close scoring in the Captain’s Prize and medal. In division one, first was Nigel Roberts with nett 66; second Timothy Caulfield nett 67 and in third place Will Caulfield, with nett 68 on count back from Nick Mier. Richard Rowe was first in division two and winner of the prize with a nett 65; second Nick Nottley nett 68, third Lester Francis with a nett 69 on count back from Peter Anglis.
Thirty nine ladies braved the strong winds to compete in the Alice Rose Bowl. Dawn Philott topped division one with 32 points, second Hilary Picton 31 pts, third Belinda McSherry with 30pts on count back from Lynn Swift.
First in division two, with the excellent score of 36pts, was Janet Kiely who deservedly won the Bowl. Second was Gail Reed on 34pts, third Myra Sussex 30pts.
In division three Jackie Sealey also had a good score with 35 pts, second Helen Heywood 31pts, third Helen Phipps with 29 pts on count back from Norma Thewlis.
