A SLIGHT breeze offered some relief to the 32 teams of ladies who took part in Tavistock Golf Club lady veterans’ three ball better ball open.

There was excellent scoring despite hard fairways and lightning fast greens. The Tavistock team of Fran Horton, Sybil Cole and Sally Hills took the honours with 92 points on count back from Tavistock’s Sue Eastwood, Helena Mitchell and Barbara Porter. In third with 86pts were the Honiton team Christine Luttman, Ann Desmoulins and Hilda Hoepelman with 86 pts.

The best away team not in the top three were Teignmouth’s Annie Hoult, Lorraine Dunn and Gay Cann with 85pts. The best home team not in the top three were Mary Lyddon, Jean Thomas and Anne Dawson with 83pts. Best front nine, June Kendall, Lesley Moore and Norma Thewlis 41pts (Tavistock); best back nine, Jenny Kay, Sue Coles and Peggy Burge 44pts (Tavistock); nearest the pin seventh, Annie Hoult Teignmouth; nearest the pin in two on the 14th, Maggie Bay, The Point.

There was also a full field for the men’s four BBB open. There was tight scoring but first were Tavistock’s Andy Down and John McGahey with 46pts on countback from China Fleet’s Caine Webber and Thomas King and another Tavistock pair Steve Andrews and Lewis Reid.
