TAVISTOCK golfers had a winning weekend in the Dartmoor Foursomes.  Played over Tavistock and Yelverton courses during  the Bank Holiday weekend Tavistock’s George and Nicky Gawman had two excellent scores to win the trophy and top prize.

Also finishing in the prizes were the Tavistock pairs Alan Gawman and Lynn Swift, Graham and  Bev Ruth, Dawn Philott and Hilary Picton and Alan Doidge and Rob Jarman.

In the Tamar Cup held at Lanhydrock near Bodmin, Tavistock Juniors had an exciting match against St Austell.  The score was one all so it all came down to the last pairing, brothers Harry and Ollie Weston.  All square on the 17th, Harry scored his first ever ‘hole in one’ — good going for a ten year-old!  He then went on to hole a crucial putt on the last to securing a 2 and 1 victory for Tavistock.

The club’s men veterans played for the Kukri Trophy.  In division one David Johns 36 points, second Rick Harrison, 35pts, and third Ken Kendall 32pts.  First in division two, and winner of the trophy with 35pts,  was Ian Rose, second Stephen Shipman 34pts on countback from John Thewlis.

One of the most popular ladies’ events is the Lady Captain’s Prize Day —  this year was no exception with more than 70 ladies taking part.

There were many winners but topping the silver division Jane Hosking 41pts, Myra Sussex won bronze division one with 45pts and Sue Eastwood took the top prize in bronze division two with 45pts. Another great prize day followed by an excellent tea!
