THE final of the Tribute South West Winter Foursomes annual competition was held at Yelverton Golf Club this week.

A competition which started at the latter part of 2018 attracted 82 competitors from a dozen Devon and Cornwall clubs.

The highest scoring teams from the first round qualify for the finals whilst others compete for the plate. The first of the morning’s matches saw the talented Teignmouth pairing of Dave Best and Dave Henson against the Murray brothers from Yelverton. Simon and Anthony Murray enjoyed a superb 5 and 4 win. In the other semi-final, two Yelverton teams of Bryan Gullick and Andy Hill against Kev Blaber and Lee Lawson competed, the former running out winners by 3 and 2.

In the Stableford the team to claim top spot was Dave Bridges (Yelverton) and Martin Wallace (Staddon Heights). Third and fourth places saw Dave Best and Dave Henson play Kev Blaber and Lee Lawson with the Yelverton pairing of Blaber and Lawson who sealed third place by 1up.

The final match was difficult to call as both Yelverton teams had the same local knowledge and both had very good results in the morning matches.

Gullick and Hill beat the Murrays by 2up. All competitors spoke highly of the excellent spirit in which all the matches were conducted, reflecting positively on all the players and organisers alike.
