THERE was some great golf, in superb conditions, played under blue skies at both Okehampton and Downes Crediton Golf Clubs this weekend in the annual Mid Devon Foursomes competition.
The first day’s play was held at Downes Crediton concluding at Okehampton on day two.
The winners of the scratch were Chris and Chloe Howard (Borringdon Park) with 56 points. In second was K Lacey and G Sims (Cricket St Thomas) with 55pts. Best handicap result went to Paul Skidmore and Richard Reid (Okehampton) with 78 pts followed into second place by James Stacey & Jay Carroll (Okehampton) with 75pts. The best mixed prize was won by David and Sue Williams (Okehampton) attaining 66pts with Aaron Kinkead and Michelle Widdows, second with 63pts. First place in the single sex category went to D Vowden and B Tucker (Downes Crediton) with 67pts on the back 18 from, in second, D Taylor and A Hull, also from Downes Crediton.
On Wednesday the ladies played in the Ping fourball better ball competiton. The winners with 41pts were Francis Harbron and Maggie Caws closely followed into second place by Marcia Jones and Sue Stanbury with 40 pts. Michelle Widdows and Doris Jewell were third with 38pts.
After qualifying at Okehampton, Sue Stanbury travelled up to Kingsdown Golf Club. in Wiltshire to play in the South West regional medal finals. After a credible round she earned in second position and now goes forward in August to the national finals at Frilford Heath Golf Club in Oxfordshire.
