THE wintry weather has proved a testing time for Tavistock Golf Club members but both in the men’s monthly Stableford and medal competitions there was good scoring.
In the John Morris Medal Dan Harris topped division one with a nett 73 on countback from Jim Whitbread and Dave Burge with Chris Henderson on a nett 74. In division two Nick Turner was the winner of the medal with nett 71, second (and runner up) was Mark Claridge, nett 72, and third with nett 73 was Nick Read.
The men’s Stableford produced some tight scoring. First in division one was Jim Whitbread with 38 points; second was Danny Brockington 37 pts on count back from Adam Bridgewater. Marc Ninnis scored 37pts in division two on count back from Chris Johns and Michael Thrasher. In division three Vic Eastwood was first with 40pts; second Lee Bartlett on 39pts and third Keith Stenhouse with 38 pts.
In the Men Veterans’ qualifier Richard Crawford was first in division one with 38pts on countback from David Johns; third was Mike Roe with 37pts on countback from Ian Gasper. In division two John Hopkins scored 36pts; second was Dick Spackman on 35pts on count back from Stephen Shipman.
The ladies had a ‘Fun Day’ and though the day started in fine weather strong winds, rain and hail soon swept over the course! A few hardy players carried on till the bitter end but it was decided that the result was for the first nine holes. Sybil Cole, Liz Loosmore and Wendy Anglis were the winning team.
