THE season is gradually winding down at Tavistock Golf Club.  The weather was not kind for players in the Moorland Links Medal  but the winner, Stuart Allen, came in with a respectable nett 79. 

Second was Steve Andrews on nett 82, third, Jack Philpotts on nett 83 and in fourth place, Colin Nolan, nett 84.  In the annual Captain v Secretary match the captain’s team scored a narrow victory over the secretary Jonathan Coe’s team. 

‘Their win,’  said the secretary ‘enabled me to retain the wooden spoon!’

The final competition rounds for the Christmas Bottle and Poultry competitions have now been played. 

The men’s Bottle Trot took place over two days with Mike Sutcliffe scoring 41 points to top division one; second, Jack Philpotts with 40 pts on count back from George Gawman. 

The scoring was repeated in division two with winner Steve Fowler also scoring 41pts; second was Viv Wilton, 40pts, on count back from Paul Reid.  In division three, first was Ray Barnes, 40pts, second Shawn Daymond, 38 pts on count back from Roger Short. 

On day two, first in division one was Rich Potts with 41pts;  second, David Turnbull, 38pts, on count back from Tom Dodd.  In division two scoring was tight but first was Chris Laight with 38pts on count back from Ajay Patel, Simon Hirst and Alan Doidge.

It was a grey damp day for the ladies’ Poultry Stableford but Jane Hoskin topped division one with an excellent 41 pts, Second was Belinda MacSherry on 38pts; third, Fran Horton 37 pts, fourth Nicky Gawman 35 pts on count back from Wendy George.

First in division two Hazel Cash 37pts; second, Jenny Kay on 36pts; third Carolyn Crawford 35 pts and fourth Kate Butler 32 pts on countback from Ginny Samborne. 

In division three Helen Phipps was first with 32pts; second Pat Pope on 30pts; third Sue Eastwood 29 pts on count back from Sue Pratley.
