YELVERTON Golf Club lady Ann Pritchard, although having only started playing the game this year, has already had considerable cuts to her handicap and won her division. Winning the Eveline West Cup caps her perfect introduction year.
In conjunction with the monthly medal the Eveline West Cup is held for those qualifying ladies who have won medals or Stableford competitions in the silver and bronze divisions for the current year. Ann complimented her playing partner for her support with both enjoying their rounds.
Overall result: Eveline West Cup winner: Ann Pritchard; 2, Mair Preston-Jones; 3, Gina Mason. Division one – 1, Mair Preston-Jones 78; 2, Liz Westacott 79; 3, Lauren Chapman 80. Division two – 1, Ann Pritchard 74; 2, Gina Mason 78; 3, Carolyn Crawford 79. Division three – 1, Jaqueline Moir 82; 2, Julia Tindall Jones 88. Lauren Chapman scored the lowest gross score while Kate Wright had a two on the twelfth hole.
The summer junior eclectic finished this week with a tie for first place. The climax of this competition has been close with any one from five players capable of taking the title but it was front-runner Mason Seward who held on to secure top spot. However coming from seemingly nowhere was Isaac Thomas who shared the spoils with Mason.
Playing off a handicap of +1, Caitlin Evans-Brand from Yelverton Golf Club has finished the season with a valuable second place in the Tiger Fall Invitational in Savannah’s Crosswinds Golf Club, Georgia, USA.
Caitlin, who recently moved to Bethune-Cookman University Florida, has been working hard on her game with four to five hour daily sessions on her short game alone. The 2019 season for Caitlin starts in February at Kiawah Island with six world ranking events culminating in the NCAA Minority finals at The Blessings Golf Club, Arkansas in May 2019.
Caitlin said: ‘Courses over 6,000 yards with vast areas of water surrounding fairways and greens are the norm.’
There were 10 winners competing for the right to claim ‘Winner of the Medal Winners’ title in this competition which pits all the year’s medal winners together.
Overall winner: Chris Stofell. Results (All scores are net): 1, Chris Stofell 67; 2, Colin Kalas 71; 3, Phillip Pond 72. Stableford winners’ results: 1, Lee Lawson 37pts; 2, Peter Bradbury 36pts; 3, Mike Ferris 30pts.
This week, Yelverton Golf Club Veterans 3-Ball Stableford attracted 36 entrants all donning their winter golf clothing for the cold and showery conditions. Results: 1, John Soutar, Andy Young and David Miles 80pts; 2, Tim Douglas-Riley, Graham Steen and John Pascoe 77pts; 3, Alan Malton, Colin Morris and Keith Clench 77pts.
Gilly Jarvis holed in one at the sixth hole.
