THE busy season continues at Tavistock Golf Club on a course with fast fairways and greens.
Seventy two players took part in the men’s club championship played over two consecutive days. The club champion for 2018 with a gross score 142 for level par was Adam Bridgewater - his fourth win in the last five years. Second was Dave Turnbull with gross 144 and third with a gross 148 Jack Philpotts.
Winner of the David Walls trophy for the best nett score was Ajay Patel with a net 136; second Tom White nett 138 and third Dan Coop nett 140.
There was tight scoring for the Captain’s Prize and medal. In division one Will Stenhouse was first with nett 68; second Jonathan Behennah nett 69 on count back from Mark Russell and Gary Pumford. First in division two, also witht net 68 was Lee Bartlett; second Glyn Cunnick nett 70 on countback from Keith Stenhouse. The Captain’s Prize was awarded jointly to Will and Lee.
Always a popular event is the Ladies Guest Day. This year’s winners of the Rosemary Cook Trophy for the best score were Norma Thewlis and guest Catherine Slee with 47pts on countback from Barbara Porter and her guest Val Raine. The Guest’s nearest the pin on the seventh: Gilly Jarvis, Yelverton; nearest the pin on the 14th in two, Liz Collier, Staddon.
In the ladies’ Stableford, Cheryl Hall topped division one with 43pts; second Dawn Phillott 40pts and third Hazel Cash 38pts. In division two, first was Patty Congo 39pts; second Sue Coles 37pts, third Helen Phipps with 36pts on countback from Jenny Kay. First in division three was Jean Thomas on 40pts; second Sally Timpson 36pts on countback from Joy Harrison.
Winner of this year’s lady veterans and the Margaret McKee Trophy was Jean Thomas with a nett 72; runner up with nett 74 Norma Thewlis.
