LOWLY West Devon C shocked the Tavistock Snooker League fraternity by brazenly waltzing up the hill to Golf A’s back yard and coming away with a well-earned 3-2 victory.

WD C pillaged the first two frames with black ball wins for skipper Roger Shrimpton over his Golf A counterpart Pope, followed up by a final ball win for Grigg over the lively Ruth.

Golf a bounced right back with wins for Whitley and Turnbull over Wannacott and Williams to pull the scores all level going into the final frame.

A close ‘cat and mouse’ encounter entailed as Wylie for Golf A and Elliott for WD C battled it out in a pressure cauldron atmosphere to decide the spoils. It was to be Elliot that prevailed as he slowly pulled away, keeping his head and taking the balls required to secure his sides unlikeliest of victories.

In the second league game Conservative Z played Conservative B to maintain some sort of challenge for the third place in the league.

However on the night they were just not up to muster. Flack for Con Z team never really looked like upsetting Dolan’s flair and command of the game and collapsed easily under the onslaught.

McKechnie (senior) for Con Z team played his usual slow and steady game and gradually wore down Anderson in a tight contest, despite Anderson’s superb potting skills. McKechnie (junior) for the B team faced a lacklustre Symons and had little trouble dispatching his opponent who failed to notch up a point until 30 minutes into the frame but who did managed a good rear guard action in the second half, but it was too little too late.

The ever reliable Jankowski for the Z team kept his team in the running with a good win against Moloney, who despite some fine play failed to control the irrepressible Scotsman.

In the final and deciding frame Mayors for Con Z team faced Evans, who was in excellent form on the night and outpaced his opponent at every turn, giving Conservative B team a well deserved win.
