PICK of the night’s encounters in the Tavistock Snooker League was the surprise 3-2 win for Golf A over Tavy A.
Tavy A drew first blood with Dolan edging out Pope in a black ball frame, only for Golf A to bounce right back with new player Buchanan inflicting a rare defeat on Tavy A’s skipper Evans junior.
Turnbull with a fine 25 break restored Golf A’s lead as he removed the dangerous Hicks, before it was all square again with Anderson junior getting the better of Golf A’s Doidge.
The final frame decider was a one sided affair as the potting flare of Whitley with a 29 break proved to be a ‘bridge too far’ for Tavy A’s Lyall.
If nothing else this was proof of what Golf A are capable of doing when able to field one of their stronger sides.
Current League leaders West Devon A had a reasonably comfortable win over fellow club members West Devon B.
Brookes with 44 and 22 breaks had no problems disposing of Roger Rich, and likewise, team mate Morris, with a 24 break, made short work of Boyd to put the A team two-up.
Heathman made it three for WD A after fighting off a feisty challenge from Gilchrist with Kevin Rich (24 and 20) stretching the lead further as he walked all over John Rich.
The bright point of the evening for West Devon B was when new player Andy Smith came from behind in his first ever league game to take out ‘in form’ Lawrence with a classy blue ball doing the damage late in the frame.
Given West Devon D’s recent bad form it was no surprise that Conservative A ran out comfortable winners.
Boulton for Con A completed a regulation win over Shrimpton senior before Murton drew WD D level with a simple win over Bell.
Routine wins for Carruthers (33) and Babb (28) secured the match for Con A with Wiles (22) providing the ‘icing’ with a hard fought win over the tenacious Paul Shrimpton junior. Four points on the night took Con A to joint second spot.
