Caradon ladies 0
Tavistock ladies’ firsts 3
TAVISTOCK Hockey Club ladies’ firsts were looking to keep their recent winning streak going.
It was a bright start away to Caradon and the home side certainly showed they were ready from the off when they created a goal scoring opportunity for themselves within the first 30 seconds; thankfully, for Tavistock, their goalkeeper Viggers kept them clear.
This woke the Reds up and they reacted well, in a match that was end to end in the first half. It was Lamb Junior’s quick reactions that created Tavistock’s opening goal however, just moments before the half time whistle. She took a quick, self-pass and played onto Lamb Senior who out manouevred the Caradon defence, slipped the ball to Law, who fired at goal which was finished by a nifty deflection from Headon. Tavistock knew going into the second half they had to keep the work rate and quality up if they wanted to keep hold of their score line.
There was plenty of opportunities at both ends of the pitch but some strong defending and solid goal keeping from Viggers kept the Reds in front. Tavistock caused even more problems in the home side’s half and following some more Lamb Senior skills put Law in a great position and fired home to make it 2-0.
Looking goal hungry the Reds once again were attacking the Caradon goal. Centre half Headon laid up Fenwick at the top of the D, who turned on the reverse and slotted it passed the Caradon keeper’s right foot.
Tavistock kept working hard and although 3-0 up still had a lot of defensive work to do against a strong opposition, the girls held on and took a well deserved 3-0 win. They now sit third in the league table.
