HAVING drawn their first match in the Exeter and district League division five against Seaton C and narrowly winning their second against Bovey Tracey by one point, the Okehampton ladies tennis team were keen for a win in their first home fixture of the season.

Returning from illness, captain Jackie Jarvis partnered Angela Herrod-Taylor and they got off to a good start winning their first match 6-2, 6-0. Filled with confidence they started their second match and took the first set easily 6-0; in the second, the opposition rallied and mounted a spirited attack before Jarvis and Herrod-Taylor finally clinched victory at 7-5.

The second couple Kath Bolt and Vicky Bryceson took a while to settle into the game, they lost the first set, rallied to win the second and managed to hold on in the tie break to win.

It was a similar story in their second rubber, they again lost the first, won the second, but this time even although they were leading in the resulting tie break they were unable to convert the important points and narrowly lost.

However a 7-3 win for the overall evening was a satisfying result and lifted the Okehampton Ladies A team to the middle of the league table.

The Okehampton men`s team Exeter and district League division four have also had a profitable fortnight with a 6-2 win against Tiverton A and a 7-3 victory over Bovey Tracey ?A.  Paul Love and Adam Richards maintained their unbeaten record and Stuart and John Jarvis renewed their partnership to add some valuable points.
