PLYMOUTH Parnells Gaelic Football Club will be demonstrating their skills at this year's Tavy13 ahead of their world record attempt in Plymouth on April 19.

The club is the only Gaelic Football Club in Devon and Cornwall and for many people this will be the first time they get to see what Gaelic Football is all about.

'Our team of runners comprise of local businessmen, students, a royal marine, nurse and pharmacist, so with a bit of luck we will get them all across the finish line in good order,' said Glenn Kelly, Plymouth Parnell's club secretary.

'We are intending to solo a football, which in Gaelic Football parlance is kicking a ball from toe to hand every four steps.

'We have done the sums, and each player will solo the ball approximately 6,000 times each along the 13 mile Plymouth route in April. All monies raised will go St Luke's Hospice. The Tavy13 provides ideal training for us.'

Shaun McDermott, who owns Pens and Moor in Tavistock Pannier Market, is the oldest member of the team taking part in the challenge.

He added: 'This is a once in a lifetime occasion to be part of. I am very proud to help promote Gaelic football whilst raising loads of money for St Luke's Hospice and I am very grateful to Tavistock AC for their support.

'If you are interested in learning more about Gaelic football and our world record challenge, come along to Tavistock Athletic track on March 22 and watch the demonstration whilst the half marathon is taking place and at the same time cheer on all those participating in the Tavy 13.'
