THE sun beat down on Tavistock Hockey Çlub's first ever 'club day' last Sunday morning. The club day was part of a national event spearheaded by England Hockey. Tavistock Hockey Club decided to participate in order to raise the awareness of hockey in the local community. Organised by the club's new social committee and co-ordinated by Robynne Fenwick, the day proved a fantastic spectacle on a very hot sunny day. From tug-of-war and apple bobbing, to mini hockey games, a barbecue and refreshments, the day was a great success and advertisement for the club. West Devon-based children's charity CHICKS (Country Holidays for Inner City Kids) allowed their bear mascot out for three hours of fun at the event, which was held at the Mount Kelly Astro Pitch, and a collection was made for CHICKS during the morning. Club chairman Phil Honey paid tribute to everyone who put such a huge effort into running the event and further raising Tavistock Hockey Club's profile in the area.
