East Devon B 2

THIS was the first run out of the season to blow away all the hockey cob webs for Tavistock A and a good friendly against East Devon was a great start. The game was played in the right manner and open play dominated the game from the start.

With nothing between the teams, the game swung from end to end and both sides had their chances. East Devon were held by the visitors' defence and the East Devon keeper kept the Tavistock attack at bay.

With a mix of youth and experience, Tavistock began to dominate the midfield and Dom and Sam Stanbury were controlling the spine with the assistance of the returning Shane Lovett.

With width and control via Honey, Chamberlain and Hunter, Tavistock began to create a lot of chances and the rampaging Venton was well in the mix. Tavistock started to dominate but against the run of play, East Devon scored from a well worked short corner.

The second half started in much the same vein, with Cowen, Wood and Tosdevin for the home team containing the attacks and the mobile Hansen covering all approaches.

Tavistock created a hatful of chances but again a short corner was their downfall and an un-cleared strike rebounded into the net. Tavistock continued to press. The skills of Dom Stanbury brought them back in when his powerful shot hit the keeper and trickled over the defenders foot and then the line.

Chamberlain showed some real calm nerve in front of goal when a glorious move ended in him slotting the ball under the oncoming keeper.

With Tavistock looking fluent, Stanbury nailed his second following a weighted pass from his brother and a reverse stick swipe into the home goal.

This was a great result in a game played in good spirit. New keeper Graham was outstanding in his first outing for Tavistock and looks to be a major asset for the club.
