Tavistock Colts 22

Exmouth Colts 7

THIS was another very determined performance from Tavistock Colts against an attack minded Exmouth side.

Exmouth got off to a bright start and enjoyed considerable possession in the Tavistock half; however, the home side weathered the storm and defending doggedly to grow in confidence.

As the half wore on they began to apply pressure and were close on a number of occasions to scoring.  The breakthrough came midway through the first half thanks to a penalty from Dave Milligan.

Despite Tavy enjoying most of the possession, Exmouth soon found themselves ahead after capitalising on clumsy play from the Tavistock backs.  The home side responded quickly with Martin Budden scoring to finish off some excellent phased play and earn Tavy an 8-7 half time lead.

In the second half Tavy began to take charge of the game, they were dominant in defence and effective in attack.

With Exmouth pinned in their own 22, it was only a matter of time before Tavistock extended their lead, this time with Josh Birch scoring superbly after an extended period of pressure.  Tavistock extended the lead with Sam Northmore adding the final try from a well-worked penalty move.  Dave Milligan successfully added the conversions.

Tavistock withstood a late Exmouth onslaught to deservedly win 22-7.  This was an encouraging performance from a team that is beginning to believe in itself.

n Next week Tavistock Colts are away to Brixham Colts.
