DESPITE tough conditions there were some impressive scores in the first round of the Winter League at Tavistock Golf Club.  The league, organised by club professional Glenn Richards, is a four ball better ball, three quarter handicap Stableford and is always well supported and competitive. 

In division one Max Clarke and George Gawman scored an impressive 44 points.  Dean Dickerson and Nigel Roberts in division two had 41pts and while in division three, Keith Klein and Bill Phillott came in with 39pts.  First in division four with 40pts were Steve Andrew and Lee Bartlett.

In the Gamekeepers' Trophy Stableford Keith Lethbridge was first with 43pts, second Will Spearing on 39pts and, in third, with 38pts George Gawman. 

The ladies monthly Stableford was played in conjunction with the Allen Candlesticks which are awarded for the best partners' aggregate score.  

In division one Hilary Picton scored 36pts, second  Belinda Mc Sherry 34pts on countback from Dawn Phillott.  First in division two Peggy Burge with 34pts, second June Kendall 31pts on countback from Sue Coles and Teresa Hughes.  Barbara Porter, in division three, had 33pts; second Helen Phipps 31pts on countback from Sue Pratley. 

The winners of the Candlesticks were partners Hilary Picton and Layleigh Cann with 68pts, runners up Dawn Phillott and June Kendall on 65pts.
