The Tavistock Specials FC?were in great Christmas spirit when they were hosts of a tri-club, round robin disability football tournament, held at Tavistock College’s all-weather pitch. They were joined by the Plymouth Special Olympics team and a new side to disability football, St Agnes in Cornwall. The event was sponsored by Jay Thompson of Plymouth United. Also joining in were Tavistock U11s and goalkeeping coach Andy Meeds.

After the festive football, everyone went off to the Red and Black Club to tuck into sausage and chips with supermarket Morrisons supplying the mince pies. Allen Lewis, a co-founder of the Tavistock Specials, told Times Sport: ’It was a brilliant time, with the games played in a great, friendly spirit and full of fun – even the referees were laughing. The best bit was when one of the arriving away players got off the coach and the first thing he said was “When we havin’ our sausage and chips?”.’
