Newquay 2

Tavistock AFC 6

TAVISTOCK got off to the perfect start when Lewis Coombes made a fine break from midfield his pass found Glyn Hobbs who shot across Trudgian low into the corner of the net in the fourth minute.

Three minutes later following a foul on Jack Crago, Dave Hallett’s kick was headed inches wide of the target. Newquay defender Simcox looped in a header from a free kick, but the linesman ruled it offside. The Lambs continued to dominate and missed opportunities to increase their lead, with Warren Daw heading over when well placed and efforts from Crago and Coombes were well saved by the home keeper. The Lambs increased their lead on the half hour when Josh Robins made a great break into the penalty area, his pass found Glyn Hobbs who produced a composed finish to make it 2-0. The visitors continued to dominate and should have had the game wrapped up before the interval but they missed good opportunities with Coombes, Crago, Hobbs and Fyneboy all going close.

The second half started as the first had ended and a Crago cross was superbly saved by Trudgian. The home team were back in the game in the 50th minute, when a defensive mix up saw the ball deflect into the path of Hayden Turner who sprinted away and fired past the advancing Jack Ord. This lifted the home team and they really started to get a foothold in the game.

Ricki Shepherd then provided a perfect pass for Glyn Hobbs; his cross found Jack Crago but his fine header thundered back off the post to safety. Shortly afterwards a fine move saw Crago knock one in to make it 3-1 to the Lambs. Back came Newquay with Louis Price slotting the ball home. This stirred the Lambs and it was not long before Hobbs completed his hat-trick. Good work by Shepherd found Warren Daw and his great cross was headed home by Jack Crago to make it five. Following a corner kick the ball found Shepherd. His perfect pass saw Crago net number six.

This was another good performance although not to the high standards set at St Austell, however it was more than enough to secure the three points.

This result almost makes certain of fourth place for the Lambs, but there is still a possibility of third place.

St Austell  1

Tavistock AFC 4

THIS was a convincing win at Poltair Park over top of table St Austell.

The team put in a great performance and the home team can have no complaints as on the night the visitors were worthy winners. The home team were fast out of the blocks but the nearest they came to scoring was in the tenth minute when following a corner kick, Liam Eddy shot wide of the target. The Lambs defence stayed firm and reduced the home team to long range efforts. As the game progressed the visitors gained more possession and only a last ditch tackle denied Lewis Coombes from opening the Lambs’ account.

The Lambs were now on top and took the lead in the 40th minute when a fine passing move from the defence saw Warren Daw find Jack Crago just outside the angle of the penalty area. Crago unleashed an unstoppable right foot shot into the top corner of the net, to take a goal advantage at the interval.

St Austell pressed for an equaliser but again they were restricted to shoot from outside the penalty area. Hobbs forced the home keeper to make a great save to deny the visitors. Kelvin Fyneboy then spurned an opportunity when he shot over from eight yards.

The Lambs deservedly doubled their lead in the 70th minute when Jack Crago made a great run down the left, his fine pass put Glyn Hobbs in on goal, he calmly slotted the ball home 12 yards. The home team scored when a shot from Eddy took a wicked deflection which left Jack Ord helpless as the ball looped over him into the net. Five minutes later the visitors were awarded a free kick some 25 yards from goal, Glyn Hobbs unleashed a thunderous shot that nestled in the top corner of the goal to give the Lambs a 3-1 advantage.

Following another flowing move by the Lambs saw Crago get into the penalty area where he was dragged down to the ground; the referee had no hesitation in awarding a penalty kick. The home team’s right back contested the decision to such extent that he was shown a straight red card. Glyn Hobbs made no mistake from the spot, to make it four. This gave the Lambs a deserved victory and open up the race for the title.
