TAVISTOCK Community FC U16s have reached their second cup final of the season, having already reached the Devon Cup final they have now reached their League Cup final.

Tavistock went to Saltash in the quarter final and were always on top. They went close on a number of occasions but could not make it count. After 35 minutes, Saltash broke away against the run of play and snatched a goal but Tavistock kept up the pressure.

The second half started as the first half finished, and within minutes, up stepped Jack Ashton, on as a substitute at half time and with his first touch, smashed an unstoppable shot into the top corner from 30 yards.

Tavistock’s pressure was relentless, hitting the post and crossbar on several occasions and having the ball cleared off the line. The game ended 1-1 and went to extra time. Thanks to some great saves from the Saltash keeper the game would be decided on penalties.

Tom Burgess, Louis March, Ryan Brimacombe, Soul Pengelly scored, and Max Wright saved one for Tavistock, while Jack Ashton had his saved. In the sudden death Harvey Love Jarrod Babb scored for Tavistock while Saltash scored their first but hit the post with their second to give Tavistock a 6-5 win on penalties to move on to the semi final.

In the semis they played Map Juniors.

The playing surface suited Tavistock’s game and they settled early and played good passing football. Tavistock created several chances and on 20 minutes Jack Ashton beat the keeper from a free kick to make it 1-0.

Minutes later Sam Russell was fouled in the box and Tom Burgess stepped up to score the resulting penalty to put them two up.

It was not long before Tom Burgess muscled through the Juniors’ defence to score his second to make it 3-0 up at half time.

The second half saw both teams creating a few chances, with TCFC? keeper Toby Wilson pulling off a several good saves.

With only ten minutes remaining, Juniors pulled one back.

With less than five minutes to go, a complete repeat, Tavy failed to defend the long a throw, and the ball bounced around in the box and Juniors scored a second.

This resulted in a nail biting finish for Tavistock as Juniors threw everything at them to try and force extra time, but the West Devon team stood strong to see them through.

Tavistock CFC will face the same opposition, Map Kings, in both their cup finals.
