Tavistock CFC ladies 5
Ilfracombe ladies 1
ON a blustery afternoon the visitors scored first; a freakish collision of ball, defender’s foot, striker’s foot and goalie saw the ball ballooning into the Tavistock net completely against the run of play.
The lead was short lived however as Tavistock replied with two goals in quick succession both from the boot of Becky Gordon — the second from Becky McMullin pinging a long and accurate pass to Becky Turner, who skilfully controlled it, beat the opposition before sliding the ball inch perfect for Gordon to score. A third from Tavistock by Robyn Hammond rifled in from outside the box, took the team in 3-1 ahead at half time.
The second half started with a little pressure from Ilfracombe but the disciplined Tavistock back line soaked up the short lived pressure; Katie Cox, Carleigh Bammens, Tania Coker and Wallis Ryan with McMulliin ensured there was no real threat.
A well placed pass from scorer — turned provider — Hammond saw Gemma Small smash the ball home from close range for 4-1.
With the visitors only having ten players Tavistock pressed their advantage. Some neat play by Eleanor Mills-Hicks won the ball in midfield and released Turner again; she danced through the static defenders and delivered a ball across the six yard box for player of the match Gordon to slide home her third and Tavistock’s fifth.
