Tavistock CFC 1

Millbridge FC 6

AFTER a string of positive performances Tavistock CFC were brought crashing down to earth with a bang this weekend.

Going into the game in a positive mood they did not expect the performance that followed. With the score 2-0 at half time there was still plenty of hope that something could be salvaged from the game.

The second half, however, was played in a similar fashion to the first, with Community second best in all areas of the pitch.

The only real positives to be drawn from the game was another impressive performance from Joe Wilkinson and Billy Barrowball keeping up his 100% scoring record.

It was hard to understand what went wrong, it was just a bad day at the pitch for TCFC.

As ever with football they had the chance to put this result behind them with another home game against Maristow this weekend, kick off 2.30pm at Crowndale.

Plymouth and District League Cup

Lakeside FC firsts 2

Tavistock Community 3

LAKESIDE won this tournament last season and were unbeaten in over two league seasons.

TCFC started poorly and were punished in the first ten minutes going a goal down after a period of sloppy play. Tavistock responded to the wakeup call with man of the match James Burns dominating the aerial battle with the Lakeside strikers. The impressive Harry Eaton was also having a growing influence on the match, getting on the ball and driving the team forward with accurate passing and a high work rate.

With Richard Beckett and Nathan Alleyne tirelessly working up front and creating good chances, TCFC felt that they could have been level by the break, the Lakeside goalkeeper producing an outstanding save as Karl Cudmore hit a drive from distance; however, the home side saw the half out and it remained 0-0.

In the second half TCFC playing some excellent football, creating chances but still finding themselves frustrated in front of goal. With wingers Ross Sherrell and Joe Wilkinson running confidently at the Lakeside defence and Beckett and Alleyne continuing to cause problems it was only a matter of time before the breakthrough came with Beckett beating a number of the home defenders and slotting the ball under the on rushing goalkeeper.

Billy Barrowball came on for Wilkinson and had an immediate impact, running at the tiring defence. His industrious work paid off as he was presented with a great chance and he did not disappoint as he made it 2-1. Pat Hobbs produced an outstanding save to keep TCFC in front and a third goal followed shortly after from another substitute as Luke Moody fired in with his first touch sparking joyous celebrations from players, management and supporters. Lakeside threw everything at TCFC, but the defence stood firm and the forwards continued to pose a threat.

A penalty with the last kick of the game gave some consolation for the hosts.
