EXMOUTH TOWN 1
TAVISTOCK AFC welcomed the return of Josh Robins and Ben Cross after serving their suspensions. Ben Elphic took over the goal keeping duties but Reece Shanley remains on the injury list and Callum Watson was suffering from a virus.
Exmouth made a strong start forcing several corners in the opening minutes. Their best effort came in the fifth minute when Gillard headed inches over the bar.
The Lambs then settled down and started to get their passing game together; a really good move saw Josh Grant and Jack Crago exchange passes which resulted in a goalmouth scramble before the Lambs forced the ball home but the referee whistled for a foul on the keeper.
Two minutes later the visitors took the lead when a poor clearance by the home defence was collected by Shipton who provided the perfect cross for Ace High to slot home from three yards. They had a chance to double their lead but High shot over the bar from 15 yards.
The Lambs levelled the score in the 20th minute when a terrific passing move resulted in Robins making a penetrating run before making an excellent cross for Jordan Annear to flash the ball home to score his first goal for the club. Four minutes later though Ben Cross made a goal line clearance to deny the visitors from scoring.
On the half hour mark Tavistock took the lead when another excellent move resulted in the ball finding Crago on the left; he cut inside but his fierce shot could only be parried by the goal keeper but Annear was on hand to fire the rebound home. Two minutes later the home side extended their lead when another great passing move from the back to the front, saw the ball find Liam Prynn and his excellent run and inch perfect cross was flashed home by Crago. The Lambs were now dominating possession with Grant, Prynn and Crago forcing visiting keeper Wright to make some fine saves.
Ten minutes into the second half the home team extended their lead another fine move saw Robins and Grant combined well to open up the Exmouth defence for Liam Prynn to finish with aplomb. The Lambs now dominated with the visitors restricted to counter attacks from one one which Ben Elphic in the home goal made a good save to deny Hinds from reducing the deficit.
Tavistock made it five in the 65th minute when a passing move resulted in Annear showing terrific ball skills and deft touch to set up Grant who flashed the ball home.
The Lambs could have added to their goal tally in the closing stages creating some fine openings but last ditch defending and good goal keeping by Wright denied them from adding to their goal tally.
This was a terrific performance by the team against a good Exmouth team that beat the Lambs 4-2 in a league match just a week earlier. Every player showed their true potential with some outstanding performances, playing some really eye catching football.
