TAVISTOCK AFC booked their place in the second qualifying round of the FA Vase with a victory on Saturday, August 15.

The Lambs paid Callington Town a visit at Ginsters Parc and delivered a strong display to advance in the knockout competition.

With 10 minutes on the clock, midfielder Tom Chastey gave Tavistock the lead from the edge of the area.

Despite being the away side, they remained in control of the game and were able to double their advantage shortly after the hour mark.

Jack Crago, who is no stranger to a goal or two, made it 2-0 with a good finish and that was how the game ended down in Cornwall.

After beating Buckland Athletic on the opening day of the new Western League season, Steve Tully’s side underwent a four-game winless streak which included a defeat in their FA Cup replay against St. Blazey.

Returning to winning ways can only boost the team as they now go to Blaise Park for a swift reunion with Dan Hart’s men- a third meeting between the pair in August alone!

In terms of the FA Vase and the next hurdle for Tavistock to overcome will be a Devon derby against Ivybridge Town, managed by Ben Washam and Brad Gargett.

The Ivies opened the scoring against Teignmouth AFC in a matter of seconds courtesy of Josh Johnson only for their Peninsula League opponents to hit back from the penalty spot.

Substitute Dan Tate scored the decisive goal to put the hosts back ahead at Erme Valley late on although Teignmouth hearts were broken when their second equaliser, right at the death, was ruled out by the offside flag.

Also advancing in the competition were the likes of Portishead Town, Torpoint Athletic and Bridgwater United.

Following the midweek meeting with St. Blazey, Tavistock AFC have the weekend off and return to action on Saturday, August 29, as they welcome the aforementioned Portishead to Langsford Park.
