WHITCHURCH House saw another very close game that went right down to the wire.
Whitchurch Wayfarers 2nd XI secured their Devon League G West status with a win over Buckfastleigh.
After the early loss of Bujic, Scholes (53), Singh (31) and Looker (32) gave Bucks a platform.
Sitting comfortably on 164-4 with overs to spare, Bucks were looking good to set a demanding target.
Fynn Hall had other ideas and ripped through the lower order with figures of six for nine, Bucks collapsing from 164-4 to 197 all out.
The Whitchurch reply had a fast start from Woodcock (30). Further contributions from Mckenzie (28) and Hodge (22) kept Whitchurch in it, but at 106-5, they were up against it.
Tamblin (14*) stuck around and runs were scored from the other end. Fynn Hall a quickfire 29 and Lovejoy 15. When the ninth wicket fell, 13 runs were still required.
Andy Hall (4) and Tamblin inched their way home with two overs to spare. The win puts Whitchurch 61 points above the relegation zone with just two more games to play.
They are 11 points behind Buckfastleigh at the time of writing, who have played a game more so, if Whitchurch are feeling ambitious, then they could even work their way to a sixth-placed finish.
Dartington & Totnes 2nd XI are rock-bottom with 57 points and Ivybridge 4th XI are next up on 86, this being a season to forget for the South Hams pair. At the other end of the table, Plymouth CSR look as if they’ll edge the title ahead of Chagford 2nd XI.
Whitchurch conclude their campaign by hosting Chagford and then visiting PCSR so they could well have a say themselves in who wins the division.
