OKEHAMPTON Flyers had a successful English Championships at Telford International Centre, achieving two podium places, four finals, and lots of personal bests.

To qualify for the English Championships, club gymnasts have to achieve set rankings in their age group for trampoline and double mini trampoline (DMT) at two national qualifying events run by British Gymnastics and English Gymnastics, as well as achieve the correct qualification score.

Club gymnasts achieved nine qualification places for the championships, four at gold level and five at silver level. Gold level is the highest level and equivalent to FIG (highest level UK nationals), and silver level is the grade below.

At senior men's gold Arran Stannard-Heap came 5th, with several double somersaults and multiple twisting double somersaults in his routine. Despite being eligible to enter the men's 17-21 competition, Arran chose to enter the more challenging senior men's competition against the highest-level men's trampolinists.

Mason Parker-Groves achieved two silver medals in the men's gold level 13-14 trampoline and double mini trampoline (DMT).

He has quickly been progressing in both disciplines this year, achieving seven double somersaults in his trampoline routine including multiple twisting doubles, and also achieved the secondary world score for the first time in trampoline at the championships.

Logan Neville competed at men's gold level 11-12 trampoline for the first time at the championships, achieving 13th place out of 20. He also came second in the qualifying round at silver level DMT, and 5th in the final.

In the women's 15-16 silver level trampoline, Adela Wrzecionko came 13th out of 21 and also came 13th out of 16 in DMT. Kayla Prouse came 18th out of 30 in the women's 13-14 trampoline, with Evie Nicks coming 17th out of 29 in the women's 11-12 trampoline.

It was a challenging week for the gymnasts, with school trips at home and abroad, some having a week without training and arriving back in the early hours of the morning before the competition.

The gymnasts put a lot of hard work into preparing for the event. The club would also like to thank coaches Vicki, Beth, Robin and Lucia for supporting the gymnasts over the three days.
