Devon and Exeter six
South Zeal United 8
Silverton 2
SOUTH Zeal looked to make it five wins from five when Silverton came to the Recreation Ground on Saturday. However, those hopes looked unlikely when Silverton scored an early goal and put Zeal on the back foot.
The home side began to control the game and used their pacy outlets in Darren Gilbert, Adam Clark and Ryan Dennis to create a number of scoring chances but it was not until Ryan Dennis found the net straight from a corner that South Zeal finally started to look dangerous.
On the spur of half time Harley Cann sent a classy free kick into the bottom right of the goal to give Zeal a 2-1 lead at the break.
The returning Dan Wakeham snuffed out any sight of goal that Silverton had in the second half, and led the back line along with Spencer Stallion, Thomas Boother and Ollie Jefferies.
Man of the match Harley Cann added more goals as he moved upfront leaving Adam Clark to fill in as centre midfield with Ben Davey.
Zeal created chance after chance in the half and it soon became a question of how many.
Tom Boother, Adam Clark and Ryan Dennis regularly opened up Silvertons defence with delicious through balls. Darren Gilbert combined well with Harley Cann and George Jeffery upfront and he added two more goals to his collection.
Ryan Dennis burst through and finished well for his second of the match. Harley Cann completed the goal feast scoring a further three to make it four for the day.
Silverton found consolation in a late goal as Spencer Stallion gave away a penalty, the only blemish on his otherwise solid performance.
This was arguably one of South Zeal’s best team performances of the season.
This Saturday Zeal are away to Winchester in the Football Express Cup semi final.
