FROM the kick-off it was always going to be a tough game for both teams in wet and windy conditions.
Tavistock scored in the eighth minute when Sam Hicks broke free and firing a shot at goal which the goalkeeper fumbled into the net.
On the 20 minute mark some good team work allowed Matt Davidson to score to double the lead and eight minutes later Tavistock went three up with James Phelps scoring to take his season’s tally to 12. Some great passing play on the edge of the box created the goal.
At half time Tavistock managers Mark Blanks and Tim May would have been wondering if 3-0 was enough given the strong wind. Things got worse when on the hour mark, Ian Rooke got his marching orders with a straight red card for a dangerous tackle.
However, a strong defensive display by Tavistock limited Launceston’s opportunities and Jamie Castle was rarely tested.
Then with ten minutes to go James Phelps sealed the three points by beating two defenders and firing a shot past the Launceston keeper.
Tavistock goalkeeper Jamie Castle pulled off a wonder save in the final minute to keep a well deserved clean sheet for the visitors.
This was a great team effort in tough conditions.
