OKEHAMPTON MENS’ SECONDS 2

CARADON 4

VISITORS Cardon proved to be too strong for Okehampton seconds, who battled valiantly in a tough encounter.

Both sides were keen to get an early lead with Okehampton’s forwards Luxton, Jarvis and Ash making strong runs up either wing.

Caradon took the lead with an excellent strike from a penalty corner. Okehampton, however, were not ready to give up yet as the middle four of captain Jimmy, Morgan, Morgan, and Smith repelled the Caradon attacks and created multiple chances for the home attack.

After a sideline hit, Luxton made a run through the centre finding Jarvis in the D, who crossed it across to Ash; he tapped it across the goal line making it 1-1. Straight off the back of the home side’s goal Caradon were awarded another short corner which then led to a penalty flick — the Caradon forward proceeded to slot the ball into the Okehampton net to make it 2-1 to Caradon.

Okehampton pressed on and any Caradon attacks that made it past the midfield were easily controlled by the back four of Glanville, Bowles, Jarvis and Yelland.

A further mistake in the Oke circle resulted in another short corner which was put away cleanly by the away side, who went into half time 3-1 up.

Okehampton were still hopeful that they could claw back a win despite being two goals behind. Caradon caught the home side off guard once again as they were gifted another short corner. This led to a penalty flick, which was put away much like the first, leaving the score 4-1.

The home side continued to push forward and after a great set up by Hughes, Luxton passed to Smith who scored from a tight angle to make it 4-2 and set up an exciting finish, which Caradon saw through to win..
