FOREST GREEN ROVERS LADIES 0

CALLINGTON FC LADIES 5

CALLINGTON repeated the 5-0 score line from the home tie as they faced their longest trip of the season to Forest Green Rovers in Gloucestershire.

Right from kick-off the visitors were on the front foot. After one minute central midfielder, Lucy Jones, shot just wide of the target. A couple of minutes later Callington took the lead when Eleri Griffiths chased down the keeper, dispossessed her and rolled the ball into an empty net for her fifth goal of the season.

Forest Green seemed content to sit off and let the visitors play out from the back. This allowed Town to move the ball across the pitch.

Town should have doubled their lead on 20 minutes when Jones beat two players inside the six box but rolled her shot just wide of the goal. This was followed by further efforts from Jones and Amy Hemingway. However, Keri-Ann Moxom in left-midfield volleyed in a deep cross from Chloe Williams on 30 minutes. Two minutes later she added a third when she received a pass from Adele Brown and raced down the wing, before firing a superb left-foot shot into the far corner of the net.

The second half started well for Callington. On 48 minutes, centre back Tyler Matthews played in Williams who made no mistake with her low finish. At 4-0 up, Callington made a triple substitution bringing on Emily Sweet, Jodie Smith and Lisa Pearce. The fifth came 20 minutes later when a poor goal-kick was picked up by Adele Brown 25 yards from goal; the midfielder calmly drove ahead of the Forest Green defenders, before slotting into the far corner. Town dominated the remainder of the game..

After the game Town manager Adam McPherson said: ‘We made sure we arrived nice and early with this being our longest journey of the season. It helped as we started the game really fast. Kez (Moxom) did an outstanding job on the left and we were really comfortable once her two goals had gone in. The pitch was quite narrow and the surface a bit bumpy so how we knocked the ball about was very pleasing to see. Hopefully we can take that confidence into next week.’
