Mousehole 1

Tavistock AFC 1

TAVISTOCK AFC travelled to the far west of Cornwall where the visitors were without at least nine regular players due to injury, work commitment and a couple of last minute call offs.

It meant manager Stuart Henderson and his assistant Ken Ord struggling to put a side together. Goalkeeper Jack Ord, draftee from Helston Harrison Jewell, Corey Burns home on leave and new signing Luke Cloke from Torpoint all started, with James Desforges and Brandon Roberts stepping up from the second team and trialist Harvey Westlake on the bench.

There was early pressure from the hosts, who missed good chances to open the scoring, but after Tallon Burns hit the side netting for the Lambs on ten minutes, it was the visitors who took the lead.

A Lambs corner on 20 minutes was not cleared and it fell to Luke Brown, who volleyed home on the edge of the area. Their lead lasted just five minutes. Ord brought off a fine save to deny the home side, but they were fortunate to equalise moments later when Sousa’s cross come shot flew over Ord to level the scores.

The home side continued to be guilty of missed chances, with Bakayoko the main man; he could have had a hat-trick by half-time.

The second half continued in the same vein with the home side playing pretty football but lacking the cutting edge, while Tavistock absorbed all that they threw at them. Bakayoko went close again for Mousehole, hitting the crossbar early in the second half. Ord pulled off a couple of good saves to deny the home side and late on, Cloke was denied a chance with a last ditch tackle and then saw an effort go just wide.

It was hard to tell the positives from this game, but the Lambs will possibly be delighted to hold the hosts to a draw and Mousehole will rue the missing of a host of chances to come away with the victory.

On Tuesday, July 30, Tavistock are home to Plymouth Argyle 7.30pm.
