EXMOUTH TOWN 4
TAVISTOCK AFC 2
TAVISTOCK almost took the lead in the opening minute when a fine move saw Jordan Annear’s goal bound effort deflected away for a corner kick.
The game flowed from end to end with both teams playing some fine football, probing for that elusive opening. Both teams played some fine attacking football but both defences were in fine form. Denny went close for the hosts with Tallan Burns responding for the visitors with his shot being deflected away for a corner kick.
It was the Lambs that had the breakthrough just before the interval – a fine passing move saw the ball find Burns and his powerful cross into the six yard area was slotted home by Josh Grant.
Exmouth levelled the score in the opening minutes of the second half when Ace High finished off a fine move.
The Lambs responded well and just before the hour mark a fine passing move put Jack Crago in on goal; he was dragged to the ground by Wright in the home goal. The referee immediately pointed to the penalty spot. Jack Crago made no mistake as he flashed the spot kick home.
The hosts levelled the score for the second time in the 70th minute when they were awarded a free kick; the ball was played into the penalty area where High finished with aplomb. Two minutes later they took the lead when poor marking by the visitors’ defence saw High get his second of the evening.
The Lambs pushed for an equaliser but the home defence held firm. With five minutes remaining Exmouth made the game safe when the visitors were caught pushing too many players forward; the counter attack found them short of numbers at the back and Harris made them pay with a fine finish to complete the scoring.
This was another disappointing result for the Lambs. When they got the ball down and played their passing game they looked the more effective team but they reverted to long ball tactics, which were easily dealt with by the tall, powerful Exmouth defenders, losing possession, enabling the home team to set up numerous attacks.
