Duchy League cup

High Street 2

Lamerton 8

LAMERTON stormed into the next round, despite Storm Brian, against High Street, fielding a strong side with youngsters.

Dan Paton and Jake Stuart keeping their places and Robbie Court and Sam Turner available slotted back in the side, with Graham Galway at centre back.

David Byworth and Dave Downham were on the bench.

The game started at a high tempo with both teams exchanging attacks on each others goal. Lamerton started to keep the ball on the ground and found holes in High Street’s defence. The first goal came in the 20th minute after a driven ball from Paul Cowling to Turner, who lost his marker, to slot in Blair Vanstone who rifled the ball home.

Within minutes the home side equalised from a corner as a great header looped over goalkeeper Josh McDonald.

The visitors had their tails up and bounced back when Nathan Panter took on four players, one of whom fouled him in the box. Cowling coolly nestled the penalty in the bottom corner.

Court was a constant menace in midfield and with Turner’s close control and neat footwork it was soon four when the pair combined to only see Court fouled; he smashed home the free kick.

In the second half it was much the same with some lovely football being played and defence were solid with Glen Holmes, Daryl Panter, Paton and the inspirational Galway not giving the home side a chance. The fifth Lamerton goal came after good work from Vanstone who put in Nathan Panter to curl the ball inside the far post. The sixth came shortly from Daryl Panter and the seventh after when Court’s thunderous shot from 20 yards flew in.

The goal of the game came from a throwing by Holmes to Cowling; he switched the play to Paton, who did a neat one two with Byworth along with passes from Court; Turner passed to Paton who shrugged off the defender to cross the ball to Nathan Panter who finished off for his hat-trick.
