St Austell 2

Tavistock AFC 3

TAVISTOCK AFC club captain Lewis Daw was back in the starting line up, but Teigan Rosequest, Ben Cross, were out due to injury.?

The Lambs should have had this game wrapped up by the interval but they spurned three golden scoring opportunities. As early as the 10th minute a really good move saw the ball find Jack Crago but his cross into the six yard area was inches out of the on-rushing Josh Grant.?In the 26th minute another fine move saw Josh Grant unleash a thunderous shot from twenty two yards, which cannoned back off the upright; the ball fell to Crago but he blazed the ball over the bar from 12 yards.?The home team’s first real attempt on the Lambs’ goal came in the 31st minute when Josh Oak was forced to make a smart save to deny Mulready from opening the scoring.?A great passing move saw the ball find Josh Robins in the 40th minute – he cut into the penalty area but again he also shot over the bar when he should have hit the target.?Missed opportunities by the visitors saw the first half remain goalless.?

Tavistock continued to dominate possession but St Austell looked dangerous on the break.?In the 54th minute things got worse for the Lambs when a rare mix up in defence saw the ball break kindly as a pass deflected off a Lambs’ defender into the path of Goldsworthy, who calmly lobbed the advancing Oak into the net.?

This lifted the home team who were now having their best spell in the match. It was another defensive error in the 68th minute which saw the home side increase their lead. The Lambs failed to clear their lines as the ball fell kindly to Soars who gratefully slotted the ball home from eight yards.?The visitors respon

ded well and showed their determination by reducing the arrears in the 73rd minute when Warren powered home a wonderful header, giving keeper Chapman no chance of saving.?The Lambs were now dominating the play and it was no surprise they levelled the scores three minutes later. A good move saw the ball find Josh Robins; his first time cross caused panic in the home penalty area and two goal bound shots were blocked before the ever alert Crago was on hand to slot the ball home from close range.?

Four minutes later the Lambs took the lead when another fine move saw the ball find Tallin Burns on the right; he beat three defenders, as he dribbled along the dead ball line before providing a perfect cross into the six yard box where Grant was on hand to fire the ball home.?St Austell pushed forward to try and find an equaliser but Tavistock held firm to record a hard earned victory.?The Lambs were not at their best but fully deserved the hard earned victory. The three golden scoring opportunities missed in the first half made the game more difficult than it should have been but the team showed true character to come back from two goals down, scoring three goals in a ten minute period in the second half.?
