Charity friendly
Tavistock CFC ladies 1
Horrabridge ladies 2
ON Sunday in driving wind and rain two women’s teams from Tavistock/ Horrabridge past and present came together for an ‘end of an era’ charity match on Langsford Park at Tavistock AFC.
The Tavistock Community Football Club ladies’ team folded at the end of the season due to a lack of players. Some ladies had not played for many years.
Tania Coker, on behalf of the ladies, said: ‘This was a wonderful occasion and the game was played in great spirit with some fantastic football played too and also raising £121.24 in aid of Son Rise for autism.’
The first half was very even and the score at half time was 0-0.
The second half opened up a bit more with some understandably tired legs. It was Tavistock, kitted out in pink, who broke the dead lock with a superb goal from the edge of the penalty area by Becky McMullin.
Shortly afterwards the Horrabridge team broke and the two Donna’s combined –with Donna Weeks squaring to Donna Hone with a perfectly weighted pass for Hone to slot home. Sarah Blowey sealed the victory for Horrabridge with a beautiful goal from an acute angle.
Tania added: ‘This game was an amazing celebration of ladies football and it is sad that there will not be a local ladies team next season.
‘The aim is to build up with girls again and from September there will be girls’ coaching in Tavistock run by Nathan Blamey, Donna Hone and Izzy Stacey so watch this space.
‘We would like to thank all concerned at Tavistock AFC for a memorable afternoon.’
