Carlsberg South West Peninsula League division one East
Sidmouth Town 3
Okehampton Argyle 2
ARGLE once again struggled for players due to work commitments and illness. They had only manager Jamie Ware on the bench but the lads who did turn out played really well and were desperately unlucky not to earn a point from this match.
Sidmouth for their part included three new signings, including former Falmouth Town player Dan Evans who scored twice.
Gale force winds throughout ruined the game as a spectacle but both teams kept trying to play football. Sidmouth went into the interval one goal up with a goal from Evans, but Okehampton levelled soon after the break when Steve Kinsey fired home a well placed shot from 20 yards. Evans restored the home team’s advantage and then Cameron Vere added a third to make the score 3-1 to the visitors.
Argyle once again showed their team spirit and courage when Toby Gostling fired home a tremendous 30 yard shot to reduce the deficit and set up a tense finish for the home side.
In the closing minutes, Okehampton were desperately unlucky not to salvage a point when Alex Wren appeared to bring the ball down with his chest and fire home an equaliser, but the referee ruled that he had controlled the ball with his hand.
Okehampton can feel proud of this performance with a depleted side. Ed Bradshaw and Dean Jones were outstanding up front for Argyle but the whole side played with spirit and determination.
Recent winners (all £25) in the Argyle 200 club draw are: November 1, ticket number 23, J Wright; November 8, no 12, Mrs Welham; Nov 15, no 188, J Ware; Nov 22, no 21, D Hayes; Nov 29, no 4, P Carter.
