East Cornwall premier League Cup quarter final

Bere Alston 2

Saltash 1

THIS game, played at Tavistock College’s all weather pitch, was a good advert for football as it was played at a high tempo, with lots of classy football.

However, it was Bere Alston who shaded the first half, hitting the woodwork twice.

The match came more alive when Bere had Chris Bray sent off for an ‘agricultural tackle’. Saltash took the lead while their opponents were reorganising. Bere then stepped up a gear and dominated the game with the Ashes’ keeper making save after save.

Bere though levelled with Graham Galway sidefooting home. Ryan Moorhead, Paul Simpson and Chris Hutchins dominated in midfield for Bere, swarming all over the field.

The pressure got to the Saltash keeper and he fouled Galway outside the box and was fortunate to get only a yellow card. However, he still held Bere at bay with more saves. But Bere broke the deadlock when Galway scored his second, hitting home a poor clearance by the defender.

The desperation resulted in the Saltash keeper throwing Galway into the net, which meant a second yellow card and a sending off.

This was a good team performance by Bere Alston.
