Okehampton Argyle 1

Elmore 2

ARGYLE came up against a good, strong visiting side to Simmons Park on Saturday in their opening league encounter at this level.

A young Argyle side found themselves 1-0 down to the Exeter side through a penalty in the first half. However, they were awarded themselves a penalty just five minutes later and Dale Chadwick made no mistake from the spot to equalise.

After the interval Elmore did not dominate but were the better side and their reward came when they went ahead with 20 minutes to go to give them victory over Ed Bradshaw’s men.

Steve Ausden told Times Sport: ‘It was just about even but the visitors were a good side and deserved to win. They will do well in the league. We are a young side and Elmore’s experience came out on top. We played OK but just ran out of steam in the end and did not hold on to the ball. We did have a couple of players injured and a couple away on holiday so we have good hopes for this season once we get a few games under our belt.’

Argyle debutant Chris Ford from Holsworthy was the Argyle player of the match.
