TAVISTOCK U16s earned a place in the Devon Cup final with a dramatic extra-time win against Cullompton U16s on Saturday.

After previous round wins against Kitto, Elm, Map Juniors and Ellmore, Tavistock faced Cullompton for a place in the final.

Due to horrendous weather conditions across the county, both teams decided late on Saturday night to play on the Tavistock College all weather pitch.

This was a big game for all Tavistock players with the Devon final as the prize. In the two previous seasons they had lost in the quarter finals after extra time to the teams, who went on to win the cup.

Tavistock went into this game with a squad of only 13 players and in the rain and wind the home side took the lead from a corner when Ryan Brimacombe headed into the goal.

Before half time Charlie Nicholls was fouled in the area and he stepped up to neatly finish the resulting penalty and give Tavistock a 2-0 lead at half time.

In the second half both teams started well, but the visitors got a goal back when poor defending resulted in a penalty for 2-1.

Minutes later, Tavistock failed to defend a corner resulting in a second and all square at 2-2.

The game then went to extra time and in the first ten minutes Tavistock were dominant. And created a several chances but were unable to convert.

In the second period of extra time, with the rain and wind in their faces, the Tavistock boys dug deep, with players going down with cramp on both sides.

With minutes to go and penalties looming, Errikos Harrison was tripped in the area and Tom Burgess stepped up to smash in the resulting penalty to put Tavistock 3-2 up and put his team into the final.

This was an outstanding effort and achievement by all players and one which coaches Rob, Darren and Paul and all parents are proud of.
