Saltash United 1

Bere Alston United 2

SALTASH took the lead after five minutes when Mark Webber missed a kick clearance for a simple shot into an empty net.

Bere woke up and pushed for an equaliser which duly arrived in spectacular fashion as Paul Simpson’s 25 yard free kick beat the home goalkeeper hands down, going in between the upright and crossbar.

Bere were now bossing the game and the home keeper excelled with many fine saves and the help of the post as the ball rebounded into his arms.

The second half was fast and furious. Bere missed chances galore but finally got a bit of luck as Alec Lowe’s hard centre was put into the net by a Saltash defender.

The Saltash defence lost their heads and Graham Galway was heavily tackled by two players, though only one received a red card.

Saltash players took it in turns to rough up Galway but instead of reacting he carried on causing their defence problems and the home keeper was again at his best. It was a good team effort after last week’s shambles.
